Sandwell Council, an award winning local authority, is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted as a finalist for 6 awards in 5 different categories for this year’s West Midlands Celebrating Constructing Excellence awards. The Celebrating Constructing Excellence awards is one of the most coveted in the profession and a well-recognised badge of excellence among construction peers across the wider U.K.
The winners will be presented at a high profile dinner on Friday 13 May 2016. More than six hundred construction peers, business leaders and innovators from across the built technologies sector will gather at the ICC, Birmingham, to celebrate best practice applied across the region’s landmark projects.
Sandwell’s pioneering work has been recognised for its forward-thinking strategy to nurture the valuable skills that future industry will need through the formation of the West Midlands Community BIM framework, which has earned them three shortlisting’s in the BIM Project of the Year, Value Award and Integration & Collaborative Working categories.
Whilst Sandwell’s creative procurement approach alongside Carillion & Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust have been nominated for a second shortlisting in the Value award for their partnership work aligned to the Midland Metropolitan Hospital.
Other Sandwell finalists include a joint entry in the Innovation category with 3 other local authorities (Walsall, Dudley, & Wolverhampton City Council), the Black Country Councils teamed up to develop the ground-breaking OnTrack WM, a virtual rail procurement portal to showcase the regions talented rail supply chain.
Finally, Sandwell Council have partnered with business improvement experts Growth Spark to secure a finalist place for their joint development of the Growth Spark APP in the Leadership and Skills Development Award.
Sandwell Council were commended and praised by the judges who have stated that “no other public sector client is doing as much to innovate within procurement, collaborating with partners to create 3D supply chain portals (OnTrack WM and the West Midlands Virtual Hospital (WMVH). These are ground-breaking digital representations embedded with a real-life BIM framework, to train, support and develop the technology and business-winning skills of our regional supply chain”. What’s really most rewarding is that we have received recognition from construction experts and peers from the private sector.
